Atwood, who is a runner herself, believes in this city and in creating opportunities for its residents. Running for a Better Oakland (RBOakland) brings adult volunteers and youth together to discover the joy and empowerment of activity, specifically through running.

Atwood wrote The Accidental Athlete to share her discovery of running and how it changed her life.

It feels right and seems appropriate to give something to the city I love and the activity I adore by offering proceeds from my book.
